The inside of the Norwich Theatre Royal with a rack of colourful costumes on display

Behind the Scenes of the Norwich Theatre Royal | AD

Today I went to the Norwich Theatre Royal to get a preview of their Open Day Event taking place on August 11th from 10am-4pm. Everyone is invited to come and get a behind the scenes look at what happens in a modern theatre. You get to go backstage, try on costumes, and see the dressing rooms. The theatre is running talks, performances and displays all day. The best part is that the event is open to everyone and is completely free.

I’ve always loved seeing plays and musicals so getting to see behind the scenes of the theatre was amazing! Theatre Royal has an incredible line up of shows this season; Miss Saigon, Macbeth, The Nutcracker, AND the Christmas panto this year is Aladdin!

History Exhibit

The theatre has been entertaining the fine city of Norwich over the years going back to the early 1700s. A historical exhibit has been put together in the lobby to teach you about the theatre’s past. The exhibit details the history of the theatre and has plenty of vintage programs and posters from past performances.

Stepping onto a stage has always been a bucket list item for me.  Living in Maryland, USA, my family and I were close to New York and we were able to see some amazing broadway shows. I can’t wait to see a performance here in Norwich!

You can even go into the dressing rooms and see what goes on backstage.

Stage Two

A recent additon to the theatre; Stage Two offers hands on creative workshops for all ages.

To me the costumes are one of the most interesting parts of theatre. Their transformative ability amazes me. You can get up close and personal with the costumes from past performances and even buy some of them.

I highly reccomend you head over to Norwich Theatre Royal on August 11th to check our their open day and see the behind the scenes of how a theatre works. For more information head over to the Norwich Theatre Royal website.

As always, if you have any specific questions or comments, send them my way! I’d love to hear what you think.

Yours truly,

Adam Briggs
