About two weeks ago on the way to visit our Uncle in Lincoln, we drove through a place called ‘New York’. Yup, you read that right, Lincolnshire has its very own New York. It was by no means comparable to the Big Apple, with a population of 150 I’m not even sure if you could call it a hamlet. Just before you enter ‘New York’ there is a restaurant with a NCYPD car and a taxi cab outside of it, so like any blogger would, we pulled over, hopped out the car, and took a few snaps of me sitting on the cars.
This experience made me realize how small the world really is, almost 3 years ago we spent Christmas in NYC and now here I was sitting on a New York cab in the middle of the English countryside.
I figured as I’ve never written a guide to New York, this was the universe’s way of telling me now might be the right time to do so. So in todays post, I’ll be sharing everything you need to know to have the most magical trip to New York during the holiday season.
Outdoor Adventures
New York is absolutely massive and I can understand why you may want to stay in Manhattan and try to see as much as possible, but there is so much more to New York. One of my favorite things to do is take the cable car to Roosevelt Island and look back at Manhattan, nothings puts life in scale more than looking at the intricate skyline from afar. Walking the Brooklyn Bridge and the Highline are also perfect if you want to explore on foot.
Broadway Shows
Quite possibly the one of the best things about New York is its number of Broadway shows and musicals. No matter what your taste there will be something for you to enjoy. While many of the broadway shows are rather expensive, some of the off-Broadway ones are just as entertaining and cost a fraction of the price.
Escaping the Cold
New York isn’t know for being warm in the winter so if you’re not a fan of the cold then you may want to seek refuge in some of the warmer attractions. Grand Central station’s bustling markets and plentiful shops make it one of the busiest most iconic indoor oasis. Also, if you like art, there are so many museums and cultural exhibitions that are constantly changing and adding exhibits so be sure to check before you visit to find what you want to see. My favorites have to be the New York Public Library and the MET.
Photo Ops
Perhaps the cities most famous landmarks, the Empire State building and the newly built World Trade Center, rival each other for the best views of the city. I’ve done both and the main difference in the views they give is that whichever you go up you can see the opposite. The flat iron building and Dumbo (Brooklyn) also provide great backdrops for photos.
Christmas Attractions
One of the main attractions that brought us to New York in December was to see the Radio City Rockettes. The fast paced live show was the perfect thing to get us into the Christmas mood. Tickets sell out fast, so if you are thinking of going then I recommend buying tickets as soon as possible. A few more New York holiday staples include; walking Central Park, ice skating in Rockefeller plaza and the Times Square lights.
I’ve got one last tip for you and that is to try John’s Pizzeria, it is honestly the best pizza I had ever had. We always make a point to go to Johns whenever we are in the city.
As always if you have any specific questions or comments, send them my way! I’d love to hear what you think.
Yours Truly,
